I’m currently testing Linguise on auctionshed.com during the free trial.
The site is a multilingual vendor marketplace where sellers can upload products in Dutch or French, but the platform’s default language is English.
Here’s the problem:
When a vendor uploads a product in Dutch, Linguise correctly translates it to French, but not into English.
Likewise, when a vendor uploads in French, it translates to Dutch but not English.
Since English is set as the base language, Linguise assumes no translation is needed — even though the source text is not always English.
I’d like to confirm if the following setup would solve this issue:
Create a new Linguise domain and set the base language to Afrikaans (a language not used on the site).
Add English, Dutch, and French as the visible target languages.
Hide the Afrikaans flag using CSS so visitors never see it.
Would this configuration allow Linguise to automatically translate all content (including vendor uploads written in Dutch or French) into English as well?
In other words, would English then be treated as a normal translation target even though it’s the main language of the website?
If this solves the issue, could you be so kind to change my base language?

-> To clarify, this behavior is normal and not an issue. Linguise doesn’t automatically translate user-submitted content (like vendor uploads) into the original website language.
Currently, Linguise works by translating content when a visitor views the page in another active language. If a vendor posts a product in French, that French text becomes the original content saved on your website. Linguise will then translate it from French into other active languages (like Dutch or German), but it won’t overwrite or translate it back into English, your original (base) language.
This feature is not available yet, but we have it listed on our development roadmap.

-> In short, yes, changing your base language could technically allow Linguise to translate everything (including vendor uploads) into English. However, it’s not recommended. Here’s why:
- If you set a different base language (for example, Afrikaans) just to make English a translation target, Linguise will then translate everything from that new base language (e.g. Afrikaans), but it can cause inaccurate or mixed translations.
- This setup may leads to inconsistent results, or probably low translation accuracy since the system would be translating multi-language content (in terms of Afrikaans translating into other languages, while the source text is quite random, some French, English, etc.)
